Rotary International

THE President of the Rotary Club of Accra East, Mr Yaw Assah Sam, has outlined certain strategic projects that the club intends to execute in some communities across the country in a bid to improve the lives of the underprivileged.
He said the club which is a part of Rotary International, intends to upgrade facilities at the Teenage Mothers Centre at Abiriw, Akwapim, assist and support the Street Children’s Academy in Accra, offer medical outreach programmes at Aburi and Frafraha and donate hundreds of books to schools and libraries for children.
Mr Sam who was speaking at a fund-raising dinner dance in Accra on Saturday, August 9, 2008 said the club had identified several other projects that would not only make dreams real for the people in those communities but also add meaning to the lives of generations to come.
He noted that the club recently provided boreholes for eight communities in the Eastern Region from Ahwerease to Apirede and also intended to provide water storage facilities for a school for the blind.
He appealed to all members of the club with a current membership of 55 Rotarians across the country, to serve their communities in a way that would greatly impact on the lives of residents and children in particular.
He urged them to invest some of their time, energy and resources to justify their existence as Rotarians and as business and professional persons.
“Give generously, come with us to these communities and show your love and care. Let us tell the world that we can all come together to make dreams real”, he said.
“The challenge for all of us here today is to dig deep into our hearts and give in the same way as we have been blessed, either in cash or in kind, to help make dreams real for our children”, he added.
Two new Paul Harris fellows were presented with certificates and plaques to confirm their membership. They were Mr Sydney Lartey and Mrs Angela Leibel.
The Vocational Service award went to Mr Yaw Adu Boahene in appreciation for his service to the club. He was presented with a 29-inch television set for his immense contribution and commitment to the construction of 8 boreholes at Aburi at a cost of GH¢60,OOO.
The Rotarian of the Year award or the special recognition award went to Mr Peter Ocran.
The major sponsors of the fund-raising dinner dance were Deloitte & Touche Ghana and Zain, a telecommunication giant from the Middle East.
